Melasun

With Melasun, you can replace isocyante glues with water-based glues in the manufacturing of straw based panels. Water-based glues offer economical, operational and hygienic advantages. The industry is increasingly using straw as a raw material in the production of construction panel boarding, for instance Oriented Structural Straw Board (OSSB). Applications of the board include floor construction and concrete shuttering. Compared to wood, using straw as a raw material has a positive impact on the environment.

MelasunHow does Melasun work?

Basically, Melasun is a technology for the treatment of straw. The natural wax in the strands makes it impossible for water-based glues to adhere to the straws. By using Melasun, the wax in the straw strands is modified, making the strands fit for binding. In the production of panel boarding, the straw strands are aligned to create strength. Then they are glued together under heat and pressure.

Oriented Structural Straw Board is an attractive alternative to conventional construction board in:

  • The construction of residential/commercial buildings
  • Construction of bearing floors in houses and offices
  • Concrete shuttering
  • High grade boxes for packaging parts

Benefits of Oriented Structural Straw Board

Both in performance and in sustainability, Oriented Structural Straw Board excels, it has:

  • Exceeded all industry strength standards
  • Improved water resistance, good density
  • A highly renewable raw material – wheat straw
  • Potential to reduce wood imports from forested countries and to reduce CO2 omissions
