Symphase
A patented vacuum-coating technology, Symphase delivers the high performance and convenience in packaging that brand owners, retailers and consumers demand today.
How does Symphase work?
Symphase technology combines nanotechnology and supramolecular chemistry to create functional coatings. Vaporising symmetric organic molecules - such as melamine - results in transparent layers with a fully crystalline phase.
Under vacuum conditions and above its sublimation temperature of 200°C, melamine can cover large surface areas in a fraction of a second, creating a nanolayer of transparent crystalline coating with very high gas barrier properties. This can be achieved via a roll-to-roll coating process at speeds higher than 10m/s, on film substrates such as BOPP, PET and PLA.
Applications of Symphase
With this technology, creating protective, clear coatings for flexible packaging is simpler, quicker and cheaper. Especially for packaging foods and liquids new possibilities arise. Symphase is fully commercialised and available for licensing to interested film producers, converters, packaging manufacturers and brand owners looking for an opportunity to save both time and cost. Symphase is applied in Freshure Single Coat and Freshure Top Coat.
• Freshure-Single Coat delivers a functional, clear barrier coating
• Freshure-Top Coat provides in-line protection of vacuum-coated packaging films
